Press Release: Standing Campaign update |
The Pars Supporters Trust petition to the Scottish Parliament on the subject of the re-introduction of standing areas at SPL football grounds is again in front of the Public Petitions Committee on Monday 21 September.
|
The aim is to get the Parliament, as a body, to encourage the football authorities in Scotland to re-visit their current regulations that require all seated stadia to be used in the SPL. This is not a matter the Parliament can legislate on as the all seated ruling does not stem from a legislative framework in Scotland.
During the football close season both the Petitions Committee and the Pars Supporters Trust itself have continued the discussion on this subject by seeking the views of the many bodies with a role to play on crowd control and stadia management at football grounds, The bodies asked for their input included the Scottish Government, the Scottish Football Association (SFA), the Scottish Premier League (SPL), the Health & Safety Executive (HSE), The Association of Chief Police Officers in Scotland (ACPOS) and the Police Federation.
Stephen Taylor spokesman for the PST petition observed “The responses received have been extremely disappointing from the apparent lack of understanding of what we are actually asking for and, for example, the fairly broad brush presumptions made by the Police that football fans have caused trouble in the past and, therefore, will do so again in the future. The SFA have brushed the matter aside referring the matter to the SPL as it is their rule we are questioning despite the fact that many thousands of fans stood at the recent internationals in Glasgow suggesting that this is something the SFA should be more actively considering. The SPL are noted by their absence due to their lack of feedback ”
The Petitions Committee met on Monday 21 September 2009 in Alness where the Pars Supporters Trust standing campaign will again be discussed in light of the replies the committee has received.
